Mum and I before heading to the official Calgary Stampede cattle drive in 2010 |
Yes, it's that time of year again in Calgary ... Stampede time. A time
for every wannabe cowboy and cowgirl to dust off their cowboy boots, don a
cheap cowboy hat and drink to their hearts content. And, maybe if
they're really serious, watch a few rodeo events. This year, it's the 100th anniversary of the Stampede so there will be celebrations galore, kicking off with the parade this morning. C will unfortunately be away on business for the whole Stampede (which runs for about 10 days) but I will be donning my cowgirl gear and heading out for a few events this weekend. Mum arrives this afternoon (just a little bit excited!) for a month of Canadian summer fun, starting with some horsey events this weekend. Tomorrow, she'll see some 'normal' horse riding at Spruce Meadows where we will be watching some world class showjumping. Then she'll really be initiated into the Stampede way of things with a pancake breakfast at Heritage Park followed by an afternoon at the rodeo and an evening at the chuck wagon races. Then on Monday, we're escaping the Stampede chaos and heading out of town on a road trip. In the meantime, it's time to pull out the boots, go shopping for a hat and practice my yahooing!
