Central Market - a food heaven!
This week, I took advantage of the ridiculously cheap flights on Australian airlines (5 flights for $180?! Don't ask about the 5 flights, it was cheaper than changing the original ones!) and headed to Adelaide to visit my gorgeous friend, Lauren. I had a lovely few days wandering around the city, which reminded me of Hobart a little, with the small size and the old buildings. There isn't a huge number of tourist attractions in Adelaide, so I spaced out my visits to the main attractions with stops in cafes with a cup of tea and my book.
Fruit and vegetables
My first stop was the Central Market where I returned several times, roaming the aisles salivating over the fruits, cheeses, nuts, breads and chocolates.......yum! I found a great little tea shop at the market with an entire menu and a huge walled filled with so many varieties of tea. I could have easily spent the day sitting in a sunny corner of this cafe with my book and a pot of tea!

The obligatory cultural experiences came at the Art Gallery of South Australia and the Migration Museum. The art gallery had a huge colonial exhibition and some amazing Aboriginal art as well as some interesting modern art. More of my thoughts on art in a future post (I've been quite cultured since I've been home!). I loved the Migration Museum as I'm fascinated by people's stories from long ago. One of buildings used to be the Destitute Institute and it seemed that the criteria for being classed as destitute was fairly broad - I'm glad I didn't live during those times.......28 and single may well be considered destitute!

I was so lucky to be able to catch up with Lauren, Ben and suprisingly, my old housemate Spiro who I haven't seen for several years.....it just goes to show what a small place Adelaide is! After all, there are so few places for one to choose to socialise on a Friday night! Thai food and South Australian wine - what more could a girl want on a Friday night in Adelaide?
Bubbles to celebrate Lauren's engagement!
Ben and Zoda
Lauren has recently become engaged, so we had a lot of fun (to be read with a sarcastic tone!) looking at wedding dresses and visiting dressmakers. We both learnt a lot about dresses - boning, sweetheart neckline, capped sleeves and the variety of colours - did you know that it is possible to have a wedding dress made in latte or champagne coloured fabric?! It was so overwhelming, and I was only the tag-along - do you think it's possible to get married in jeans and a t-shirt?! By the end of the weekend, Lauren had decided on the dress style and I know that she will look stunning in whatever she chooses to wear on the special day in January! So, stay tuned for another 'Anna goes to Adelaide' blog entry in early January!
