They participated in traditional activities, including the splashing paint around for the Indian colour festival, making Samurai swords in Japan, ice skating in Holland, watching a puppet show in Turkey, making Aboriginal dot paintings in Australia, and learning a traditional Korean dance. At the end of the day, students went through ‘customs’ and had their passport stamped by the Principal.
Watching students show so much enthusiasm for learning about new countries was wonderful. When I spent time during my after school class reflecting on the day, I was amazed at the detailed things each student had remembered about their visit to each country. Perhaps most surprising of all was that nearly every student’s favourite ‘country’ was one different to their own.
